Children’s Direct serves as a dedicated communication link for referring physicians, providing 24/7 access to specialists at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine’s pediatric department.

It functions as a comprehensive platform for essential physician-related needs, including:

The platform features a searchable physician directory, allowing users to find specialists by name, specialty, location, or insurance coverage to facilitate connections at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Additionally, physicians can speak directly with a pediatric nurse through the app’s dedicated access line.

When initiating an admit or transfer via Children’s Direct, a pediatric nurse promptly assists and connects practitioners with an accepting physician at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The collaborative process involves developing an appropriate transfer or admission plan, and if necessary, activating the hospital’s Critical Care Transport Team. Throughout the transfer process, a trained nurse manages logistical coordination, while an attending physician remains available for consultation.

For clinical inquiries or specialist advice regarding a patient, our staff ensures rapid contact with appropriate pediatric specialists at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, typically within minutes.

The service also facilitates scheduling appointments with Washington University pediatric faculty, managing all logistical aspects and notifying patients of their appointment details.
